Modeling parametrically in
SolidWorks® is the
state of the art capability to design three-dimensional solid models.
PASCAM WoodWorks is adding the capability of semantic
operations to
standard SolidWorks®
to establish the most efficient method at the moment for the most dynamic
and flexible use of 'solid modeling'. Thus design principles
and references can be realized in a very fast and simple way between
assembly components (e.g. a door is embedded in a furniture cabinet).
Parametrical modeling is the method to generate solid volumes with the help of
parameters. As a rule, any parameter which is used for generating geometrical
elements can be modified - this implicates as a consequence a
modification of the part as well as the associatively derivedgeometry from
the solid volume.
It's facile to establish relations between the
original elements (parameters) and those elements emerging out of it (associativities). The
relations are working in a hierarchical structure, the "first" element is virtually
the parent of all the other consecutively elements.
The benefit is the optimal reusability of design components, the best possible
record and
documentation of the procedure and intentions of the designer at every
component - which is an important point in the design process which is
more and more based on the
division of labor. So members of the same design team can exchange their results
in the joint design process very easily among each other and get an
profound understanding of what the colleague has done and why he is
doing it this way. Another advantage
is the capability of fast modifications in variant
construction because the order of the single construction steps as well as the
geometric parameters are saved chronologically and are saved in a clear
and transparent form. The fundamental advantage of this history-based
modeling is this transparency and the high degree of flexibility. The
model geometry can be adjusted any time afterward in various ways by changing
and modifying the underlying single construction steps. Additionally the fully parametric 3D product
model will contribute to the decline of 2D drawing printouts, due to the
fact that the extensive
information content of the
SolidWorks® model
isn't visible on this primitive media, eDrawings files will be used instead
to share design information in a safe and convincing way. Continue
